Caffè Umbria - Seattle

The coffee here is outstanding, the baristas are friendly, and the ambiance is lovely. This level of quality shouldn’t be overlooked, even in Seattle!

Fantastic way to start your day. Best quality coffee roasts prepared by professional baristas that clearly know their beans and how to treat them. Super friendly and efficient service. What else can you ask for? Oh yeah... Quality locally sourced foods from Macrina, La Spiga, Gelatiamo, etc. Why would you want to go anywhere else?

The Macha lemonade is a great refreshing summertime drink. It's really good.

I had the best latte I've ever had at this café. However, I did notice a significant presence of homeless individuals in the area, which is not the café's fault. During my visit, I sat by the window, and a homeless man who had been loitering outside came in and sat next to me, staring and mumbling that he wanted me to be quiet. It soon became apparent that he was experiencing some sort of mental health issue, possibly schizophrenia, as he seemed to hallucinate that I was speaking to him while looking in through the window. As someone from a sheltered suburban background, this was quite unsettling for me, and I decided to leave. I did notice that the staff at Umbria were actively encouraging him to leave, which I appreciated, as they seemed to be handling the situation as best as they could. I would still recommend the café, but I suggest avoiding the window seats to help minimize unwanted attention from those outside. This may just be a typical experience in Seattle, but it could be alarming for those who aren't used to it.
