(I have a very positive comment at the end) I think my only complaint is for all fancier restaurants with more expensive food, including this place; I feel the slightest upset that this place didn't have the food quality that I expect for what I am paying for. Like this place had food that was cooked fine with flavor that was just fine. But I chose this place because it seemed fancier and I see the food is more expensive but it just tastes like if I went to an outback steakhouse. I feel like higher prices mean better tasting food but it was just ok. I do not think I am exaggerating, this is my honest opinion. I think I might return one day and I am glad I visited. There was a venue right outside that has rock nights with drinks, games, and live music. That was great and you should definitely go to see it.
My 1st time there had the best rib eye ever from a restaurant. Went 4 more times and each time left disappointed. The steak was either grizzly , overdone, or just a bad cut of meat. Not going back unless someone else pays.
Went for a birthday get together with a party of 8. The staff was excellent, and friendly. However, after ordering it took an hour and a half to get our food. They were not terribly busy at 6pm but we didn't get our food until 7:45. We also brought a cake and they charge $2 a person to serve the cake. Prices are very high. Food was ok. They use lots of garlic that over powered the rest of the flavor. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to Chives.
We had heard from this place of friends as “sister restaurant” by RYE Restaurant, our favorite Appleton restaurant! So of course we had to try – and we will be back! Like RYE, they nailed nutritiously fine food. Comfortable dining room, excellent service (our server was Michael, but the whole staff was very attentive and friendly), and the food was creative and delicious! We enjoyed some specials for the evening, along with the French onion soup!
Honestly, one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been. The baked onion soup is phenomenal and the lemon chicken never disappoints. Staff always do their best to be ready and often go beyond and beyond, as remembering my youngest son always after a stick of olives on arrival.... even if new faces work, you can say that they have got some damn good training.
