This is our go-to spot for a casual night out, where we unwind with tasty beer and classic pub food. The menu may be limited, but everything we've tried so far has been worth the price. Each sandwich comes with a generous serving of fries and a side salad or dessert. There has been a change in management recently, resulting in a switch of primary brewing suppliers, but we hope that's the only change.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very inviting. The customer service was excellent and the food was even better! It is also conveniently located near the metro station.
This is a local pub. $5 beer, generously poured....the Mac's....is the only thing that I can endorse.Today I had their eggplant parmigiana. Wonderful! It came with male salad, yellowed with rotted bits. Where is the owner/manager??? Why would he allow this? The sliders are mostly fill. They don't taste of meat. The coleslaw is a soggy sea. This establishment is in a prime location, right across from High Park. As a responsibility, a duty to the High Park/Bloor West neighbourhood, they must do better.
I was meeting a friend for a stroll in High Park and was concerned because he was somewhat late. I went in search of a coffee shop with wifi and found Mackenzies!!The pub was very welcoming in its surroundings; lots of people having a good time on a Sunday afternoon. Two tv's going with sports, but not so large and not so loud to impede good conversation. I had obviously stumbled into a great neighbourhood pub. While revving up the wifi, it was around lunch and though I should order a little something, and I saw my friend had an emergency and would be delayed. The pub had the usual pub items, but I decided to be adventurous and have my first ever poutine!! Yes, I know readers, how many years in Canada and never had poutine? Well it's true; and while I don't eat comfort food very often, decided today was the day. The poutine was delicious; a very large portion easily enough for two with tons of gravy and cheese curds. I stayed for an hour doing emails and when I was ready to go found I had eaten almost every bite, it was so good. After paying I left for a much needed walk along the trails in High Park.If I am back in the neighbourhood, I will certainly go again and recommend the pub for service, atmosphere and "great poutine."
