Patisserie Valerie - Winchester

Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else! The food was overpriced and underwhelming. As for the service, it can be best described as appalling.

Unfriendly and rather rude staff, we rather felt like an inconvenience. I had such high hopes but with rude staff, marginally above average food and dull surroundings we won’t be back. Overpriced and over-rated.

Very disappointed. We were visiting the Christmas market wanted a coffee cake before we started shopping. The Cafe was busy but quite a few empty tables that were not cleared. I went to the counter to order coffee cake. I was ignored by the 4 people behind the counter, eventually someone looked at me I asked if there was a menu, no, only the food under the counter. There were no cakes so I just ordered coffee, no idea of the price as there was no menu/price list. The coffee came in a cup, no saucer, plonked on the table by a very bored waitress. The toilets were not in use apart from the disabled! I would not go again, or recommend. There are so many other lovely cafes in the area, we chose the wrong one.

I visited Patisserie Valerie in Winchester today with a friend to have one of their Afternoon Teas. The friendly staff soon had us sat down and pots of tea were quickly served. Our plate stand soon followed with tasty sandwiches, delicious scones with the necessary cream and jam plus some very naughty pieces of cake and a couple of macaroons. The plate looked exactly the same as their sign advertising their Afternoon Teas. Our waitress Maddy, very cheerfully and helpfully arranged another pot of tea to wash everything down. Maddy was very friendly and knowledgeable about the many cakes that were on offer and enquired whether everything was OK with our meal, which it was. My friend used the ladies toilet which she said was extremely suitable and found it clean to use. We can't wait for another excuse for having a meal here again.

After 35 mins wait for our afternoon tea we were told it was on its way and there was a sign on the door saying there may be up to a 30 mins late (we didn’t see it). 20 mins later I went back and again told it was on its way. Another 15 min wait .We waited a total 1 hour 5 mins and no apology given.
