10.04.2023 - 08:08Coffee is ok and the pastries are beautiful, enjoyed the seating area and scenes of the bay. Did a cup of soup take away just to find out that it's half filled, what was really weird as the cup is already small? Overall extremely overpriced.

16.07.2022 - 14:35Cute little bistro. Reasonably priced. Duck legs were tender. The seafood rice had plenty of shrimp, squid, and mussels.

16.07.2022 - 14:35Sometimes, it's the smaller things that count. I chose this restaurant because according to Trip Advisor, it's the number 1 of 321 restaurants in Galway. I could not disagree more there are many restaurants in Galway that focus far more on creating a great atmosphere and excelling in customer service, as well as excellent food. I honestly have to wonder how it gets so many stellar reviews. On Easter Saturday, I was surprised to discover we were the only people who had made a reservation, at least for the first two hours of opening. The other two parties who arrived after us had not booked.I was excited to have booked such a highly ranked establishment in Galway city on a Saturday night and drove the eighty kilometres from Westport for the occasion. Here are the little things that coloured my view on Apoema. We were the first customers, yet my partner immediately noticed that the rubbish bin the toilet had not been emptied since the night before. The woman who took our orders did not make us feel particularly welcome it's just a vibe you get from going to a restaurants in Ireland where customer service is important. We ordered two glasses of the more expensive wine, but noticed that the amount of wine served was less than you would normally expect, especially for the price. I ordered the lamb, but noticed on my first bite that it included some grizzle, along with carrots and mushrooms that did not impress, although the gravy and potatoes were very tasty. My partner thought her cod was fresh and good, although the mussels that accompanied it were, as she put it, rather shrivelled.Overall, Apoema lacked a sense of occasion and ambiance that you would want from such a highly ranked establishment. Maybe just going to the trouble of lighting a small candle at the table would help, or maybe the owner taking thirty seconds to say hi, or maybe the server not inflating the tip you offered and then sounding shocked when you correct her to a lower amount (i.e., perhaps trying to embarrass you in front of your lady friend), or maybe not putting the dinner plate down before I had removed my glasses from underneath it would all help. It is not an inexpensive restaurant most of the five or six mains are around twenty five Euros each but the plastic chairs and paper napkins are the same as you would find in any café in Portugal. Then again, maybe that's the charm of the place that I am missing, even after my experiences over decades of eating at restaurants all around the world.

21.06.2022 - 13:58Not great. We had a ham sandwich, a falafel sandwich, and a chicken burger. The ham sandwich was two slices of white bread with small amounts of cheese and ham. It was bland and thin. It needed mustard, but they don't have it. The chicken burger was a huge fried breast similar to Popeyes, but the texture of the sandwich was wet and soft, and it needed seasoning. Fried falafel should be crunchy. Ours was soft and mushy. It was covered with sweet tomato sauce. An odd choice. Falafel needs spice. My soft drink was not very cold, and there was no ice. The chips were pretty good, as Irish chips go. The potatoes may have been fresh. The outsides were not crisp. The food looked very good, but you can't taste presentation. Better to invest in flavor and texture. The service was a bit slow. Also, we were seated against a window facing the sun. They really need to lower the blinds when the sun is coming in so guests don't roast.

27.05.2022 - 08:38This restaurant is my point of reference in Galway. After about a year and all the problems of the pandemic, I have finally returned to taste their culinary delicacies. In this restaurant you always eat as you want, it is one of a kind and the atmosphere gives you a deep sense of serenity. They have an excellent choice of wines, for me as an Italian this is a very important factor, and the menu competes hand in hand with the best restaurants nominated in the Michelin guides, no doubt 5 stars! Well done Apoema Bistro! I highly recommend this restaurant!
