Located on South Lamar in the hot SoLa District of Austin. The Highball is located adjacent to the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. They have awesome live music, fun events like Silent Disco, Dancing, and too many other events to list. They have good food and appetizers and awesome mixologist cocktails and craft beer.
We had just arrived in Austin from the UK and our hotel concierge suggested visit to The Highball's Motown Monday Night. As an ex muso I'm hard to please but I was blown away by the house band .. their sound .. professionalism .. voices and playing. 10 piece band called The Matchmaker Band. Some great Motown track choices but when they did EWF's September, Boogie Wonderland and The Emotions' Best of my Love they set a whole new bar! Simply brilliant! Het there if the last thing you ever do on a Monday night!
Such great times dancing the night away the other night at the Highball and we know we will be back soon. Sure, it is not the old Highball as it has seen major facelift and some of those not always come out right but we end up really rocking it and enjoyed ourselves. The whole area has changed so much and we were little confused where to park and all but it is a busy spot for sure.
While I use to live in Austin this was one of my most favorite place to visit on a Monday night. On Monday nights the Highball has two 10 man bands playing Motown music and this music gets young and old onto the dance floor. I miss this place so much as i had to move away from Austin. the bar is awesome as well. They have a great beer on tap selection and nice bar tenders to help you out. the band's ladies are very attractive to say the least.
