Shady Elm Cafe - Benalla

Shady Elm Cafe is a place frequented by many locals and fewer travellers due to it's being tucked away. You can almost feel your blood pressure dropping as you sit under the big shady tree over the deck area. The food is consistently good, always healthy and delicious. I recently had the beetroot tart with feta and I can't recommend it highly enough. Absolutely delicious. Best coffee in Benalla, friendly staff and great place to relax.

Beautifully set tucked away in the garden homemade pumpkin soup was delicious the soy latte with nothing to write home about but the beautiful Bantam chickens running around made up for it haha really cute little spot

Regular customer at Shady Elm. Never had food that was any less than excellent, as was the service. Just read baffling review from "Didster" - what he/she claimed to have ordered is not in their menu, and Didster gave the exact same review to another Benalla cafe - very irresponsible! Food was attractively presented, well priced and delicious, as well as arriving very quickly. Shady Elm has a very loyal and regular clientèle and deservedly so. Sit outside if the weather allows - it's glorious under the Elm and you might get to meet the cutest chickens you have ever seen.

Overnight in Benalla meant we sought out a lunch spot. The beautiful nursery setting was a great start. However when we asked for a menu we were pointed to a menu board.Strike one. The locals who came in got menus straight away. We decided not to risk anything ambitious due to there being only one staff member on duty who was too lazy to come out from behind the counter for us. Lovely food great location you can sit in the sun and enjoy a coffee and cake or a meal then do some plant or gift shopping ,lots to look at nice peaceful place if you are in Benalla you have to stop there .
