The restaurant is understated and decorated with tree roots in shapely design- to reflect the name. A lovely few slices of pumpernickel type bread and a cucumber dill spread was the welcome basket. I chose the vesparplatte which was a lovely sampler plate. A slice of bread with smaltz, a bit of potato salad ( old German style), a pickle, some fresh smoked salmon with fresh dill, a bit of this and that--in part of a small tasting plate which was delightful. My dining partner had the Kalbsgulasch with homemade spaetzle- and raved at every bite. I kindda ate off his plate because I couldn't resist the tender meat with delicious old fashioned torn spaetzles which reminded me of my grandmothers- yet with a modern flair. The two dinners with a glass of wine and a Weiss bier came to 29.20€. We followed up with a subsequent visit two nights later. Can you believe it? We ordered the exact same thing!. Highly recommended. PS - I asked that a German menu be available and it was being prepared that week
