Contribuer aux commentairesWe visited this restaurant on Saturday night on the recommendation of a colleague. The food was good and generous portions but I had to wait a while for my coconut rice to arrive, my other half had to ask twice before it turned up. Good job the main meal was served on a hot skillet! However despite the wait we enjoyed the meal
I ordered a stir fry dish I order frequently in Melbourne: Pad Krapow, or stir fried basil chilli beef with steamed rice.Usually in Melbourne, Elizabeth Street, I pay $11 for this dish: but here I paid $24. The serving was not generous; and it was in fact, swimming in liquid, more like a soup. I wanted to find out where they got their 'dark soy', since I'd noticed it's not stocked by the local supermarket, and since this is an essential ingredient for cooking Thai food, but was surprised when I was shown a bottle of 'sweetened dark soy, usually used in Indonesian cooking; and to top it off, was told it was Japanese - which it certainly was not. As expected, since they were using sweetened dark soy: the dish was strangely (for this particular Thai dish) - sweet in taste. The service was warm and friendly, but the place was almost empty. Although I would have liked to make this my 'go to' local Thai restaurant, it was unfortunately a slightly odd Thai experience. In all, very disappointing... but I suppose at least I can cook an authentic version of this dish at home.
Ate here with some friends & found it quite nice. Had the panang curry & it was really nice. Everyone else enjoyed their meals too. Generous portions & friendly service.
Went to this restaurant for dinner with a friend, it was a quiet Sunday night, venue about 1/4 full. The good news - the service was quick and with a smile and the venue was clean, the menu look promising! Sadly it was downhill from there, spring rolls lacked fresh herbs and flavours and clearly had been frozen. Satay sauce was straight out of a tin, pad Thai was swimming in a murky grey slop and over cooked, not a fresh herb in sight, grilled chicken in lettuce - omg!! - the sauce smelt like sewer water and didn't taste much better, the chicken was broiled, dry and flavourless. We asked to have a side of chilli sauce (not sweet sauce), the kitchen didn't have one and couldn't make it, so gave us a sliced frozen chilli. When we were asked if we enjoyed the meal and we said no, the chef/owner?? Came out and basically said that's just how they did it. No discount of the bill, no apology, no way we will ever return!!!STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!!
We had dinner at Red Ginger on a Friday night. The food was OK. Of the starters, the satay chicken, which I love ordinarily, was average at best, and the seafood spring rolls were very good. We had a curry and a stir fry for mains and they were decent. The portions were huge. The service was pretty awful. It seemed that staff did not mean to be rude or unhelpful; they just seemed not to know any better. The best example was when we asked to take our leftovers home, as we'd seen other patrons do. Our waitress happily went away then came back with two plastic containers which she plopped onto our table, inviting us to fill our own containers. We'd never seen anything like it. Having dutifully packed our food up, we asked for a bag to carry it in. In normal circumstances, staff would produce a bag, open it up and hold it open while the customer puts their food in (since that would be the polite, helpful thing to do). Instead the waitress just handed us a neatly folded bag. I think she thought she was being helpful - it's like it just didn't occur to her to actually help.It didn't surprise us that there is an ad on the window seeking wait staff that says something along the lines of "experience preferred but not essential", as it seemed the staff had no idea how to provide decent service at all.
