Average food, but massively overpriced! Teeny tiny samosa for £1 each! Pay extra for salad and chutney. On the plus side, they serve authentic dhal puri and it is a clean place.
Amazing beef Briyani with salad! Lush and very authentic Mauritian recipe. All our family wedding Briyani comes from Chamarel.
Got introduced to Mauritian food by coco rico in the city, which is very nice to. Came to le chamarel with some expectations with my in laws and children. The ambiance is simple and it is mainly a take away, which gave me the hint that the focus is on food, good food. That was correct. Very lovely starters and dishes combining French, African, Indian and Chinese cuisines in various dishes. Very nice variety of food an all cooked well. The owner is very friendly and happy to tell everything about the cuisine and country and noticed that I enjoyed the spicy green sauce so much, that he give me a complimentary pot to take home! I will definitely come back and bring people with me that can appreciate subtle blends of spices and variety of food
I had never tasted Mauritian food before and this was a great introduction. The people who run it are lovely; they're warm and friendly, and take the time to explain the choices on the menu. We had a lot of fish and the chef told us it was fresh from Billingsgate Market. Our choices tasted great, with many different flavours. The puddings were good too and very reasonably priced. Makes a lovely change in often rip-off London to get something of such good value. I'll be back.
