The menu on the app had limited choices because many items were out of stock. We both ordered wraps, which arrived quickly. However, I was disappointed to find that my sweet chili wrap had no sauce, only chicken. Despite this issue, we enjoyed our lunch and would consider returning, preferably during a less busy time.
I had a negative experience with one of the doormen at this restaurant. I was asked to finish my drink quickly after ordering it at last call, without being given any drinking up time. I was also told that this policy has been in place since I was old enough to drink, which was unnecessary. When I expressed my displeasure, I was rudely told not to come back. In my opinion, the attitude of the staff was not welcoming and I believe that customer service should be a top priority in the hospitality industry. I have worked in the industry for years and have a good understanding of how a pub/bar should be managed, and this was not it. I found the previous doorman to be much more professional.
We are local residents and frequent this establishment as our go-to pub. The prices here are surprisingly low compared to other pubs, and they offer a variety of real ales that change frequently. While not all of the ales suit my taste, I must mention that the John Willie Lees tap takeover was disappointing. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences. What sets this place apart is the fantastic staff. I want to extend my gratitude to Gina, Meg, Megan, Amy, Damon (who is currently at the Ashton location), and Dale. They all do an excellent job and are incredibly friendly, patient, and personable. As an older couple, we really enjoy spending our evenings at Wetherspoons. Thank you to the entire team for making our visits so enjoyable.
Attended recently with my young son for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the food on offer and very happy we came. for two meals with drinks and a dessert each was fantastic and despite the low cost, the food was lovely and well...cooked. My curry was Devine and red hot whilst my son had a very decent steak cooked to perfection. Would recommend
Today, Monday November we attended The Smithy Fold, at Glossop. It’s home to us as our local and we have genuinely never had a bad word to say. However today was a little different. Me and my partner are celebrating our four year...anniversary today and we decided to go as we’ve been at work all day on long hours! I ordered the Bacon and Brie burger and it was an amazingly tasty burger. It wasn’t until I was close to finishing it when I almost ate a large piece of plastic, probably off of the food boxes as it said ‘open’ similar to a seal on a lid. We told the waitress who brought her manager over, and he immediately informed us our full meal was refunded and that The Smithy Fold have already put a procedure in place to stop this from happening again. I gave him my details and he insisted we had dessert as an apology on the house. I have personally never met a more accommodating set of staff than at this pub, both the waitress ‘meg’ who thanked us and engaged in conversation with us explaining that most of the time people just shout and scream at them and the manager who sat down and made us feel unbelievably welcome. I’m not normally one to complain, and I guess this could of been a complaint. But it turned out to be a much more pleasant experience thanks to the staff. Thanks again, Smithy Fold.
