The cheese curds at this restaurant are some of the best I've ever had in my life. They are incredibly delicious.
This used to be a great little cheese factory. You could stop in and see the cheese being made and enjoy samples of their different products. They had a grilled cheese eatery that made delicious sandwiches. The location has a beautiful garden area with tables for a delightful outdoor seating option. However, the business has been closed down due to poor management and debt. So it is no longer a destination for locals or travelers. Very sad....
Unfortunately, when we visited in early December 2019, the grilled cheese restaurant was still operating, but the cheese shop had no cheese available for sale. The display cases were empty, and the cheesemaking room was inactive. The employee informed me that they were not currently producing cheese and could not provide any information on when or if production would resume. This may explain why I had been unable to find their cheeses at the supermarket recently. Although I cannot speak to the quality of the restaurant, as we had only intended to purchase Christmas gifts as usual, I am saddened by the apparent closure of the cheese-making operation at Loleta Cheese Factory. It would mark the end of an era if they do not return to making cheese in the future.
No more cheese at the Cheese Factory?! I am quite sad; I have been coming here for probably 20 years. This place made a variety of fantastic cheeses (their creamy jack was unparalleled) and the cute little shop was stocked with a variety of unusual flavors, and offered tastes so you could pick your favorite or the best gifts. You could even watch the cheese being made through the window into the cheesmaking room. However, when I stopped by early December 2019, I discovered that the grilled cheese restaurant is still open but the cheese shop no longer has any cheese for sale--just empty cases and a dormant cheesemaking room. The clerk there said they were not making cheese currently and could not tell me if or when they would start again. That explains why the supermarkets in the area stopped stocking Loleta Cheese. Maybe the restaurant is good, but I didn't try; we only came to get some Christmas gifts like we do every year. I have no idea what changed, but if this is the end of the factory part of Loleta Cheese Factory it will be the sad end of an era. I hope they one day return to making cheese, and I'll certainly update this review if that ever happens.
