I ordered the barbeque festival platter. The fries were stale and cold. The meat all had a stale taste like it had been sitting out for a long time. Very disappointing. I would not recommend it.
I was very disappointed with my first visit to this restaurant. While the service was great, the bands were not what we expected. As seniors, we would have preferred to have our meals served on proper dishes instead of plastic baskets. We even took the leftovers home to try to salvage the meat on the bone, but my wife was too upset to eat it so we ended up throwing it out. Additionally, the plastic utensils should be easier for seniors to handle.
I ordered the half rack of ribs, which came with coleslaw, baked beans, and French fries, and they were amazing!! The ribs were tender and flavorful, and the sides were the perfect complement. I highly recommend this dish!
On our way to Ucluelet we stopped in Nanaimo for lunch. We found Smokin' George's on Google and boy what a surprise. This is primo Southern BBQ and George has taken it to another level. Two of us had salads topped with smoked chicken...one a...mountain of salad greens and the other was a Kale Ceasar. Both were hearty and filling. The boys had a Brisket Sandwich and the other Pulled Pork on Tortillas. We also ordered a side of beans.....look out...these are like baked beans you have never tasted. The restaurant was very clean and the staff so friendly. We also took a Nanimo Bar topped in bacon to eat later. What an original! I have lived in the South and know BBQ and I think Smokin' George can compete with the best. Little did I know I would have to travel to Nanaimo to find BBQ this good with a real creative flair.
