Dog-friendly. we went around 2 clock to new years eve and very enjoyed it. the service was very good and the waitresses were very attentive. the food was excellent. I had creamy garlic mushrooms with a fried egg starter followed by chicken and ham hockey with a delicious baked chocolate cake and a glass merlot to wash it. really good value at approx. 26 a head. we are coming back to the final. we were two months later for a coffee at midday. we were tried to order food, but we were distorted.
After reading recommendations on Facebook, I was excited to try this restaurant for Sunday lunch. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly, but I was disappointed by the lack of ambiance in the dining room. The pub is in need of a renovation, with basic decor and no background music. It was also chilly inside, not the cozy atmosphere I was expecting. The menus were cheaply made, and the cutlery was old and worn. The pies we ordered were freshly cooked and tasty, but nothing special. The desserts were decent, but overall, the experience fell short of my high expectations. I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon.
We brought our three grandchildren, aged 9, 7, and 2, to lunch at the restaurant on Friday. The older kids were intrigued by the meaning of the pub's name. The menu had something for everyone in our small group. The staff were very accommodating and able to cater to the children's preferences. I enjoyed the small haddock and chips, which were delicious. My husband said his steak and ale pie was excellent. The children's menu was just right, with options like chicken nuggets, chips, and peas that were better than the usual fare. The chipolatas were also a hit (7 good-sized sausages) served with peas or beans, mash, or chips. We will definitely be returning.
We have eaten at this restaurant before and have always had a great experience. The ham hock pie is amazing. The staff are very polite and it's a favorite spot of ours. It's just unfortunate that they stop serving so early on Saturday evenings.
