After a sign was put out stating the place was under new management and many people raving about the place we gave it a shot. We went there for lunch and tacos were $1 and it didn't matter what meat option you chose. I gave them the adobada test and ordered 3 tacos. If a place can't get a basic staple as carne asada or better yet adobada correct it's tough to trust sometimes. However, the place exceeded expectations and this time around you could definitely see the kitchen staff in action on the grill and not on the microwave. The cook and owner definitely served the food with love and when business slowed down he'd come out, greet customers, and inquire how the food and service was. I was also impressed by the salsa options and fixings for those who want a little more spice out of life and their tacos.
Taco Shack is my favorite mexican joint in or around Selah, WA. I have come to Yakima for work a few times over the past years and have made Taco Shack a habit for lunches. I have ate dozens of lunches here and all of them have been a great experience. The street tacos (Al Pastor) are my favorite. Always cooked with the best spices and served hot off the grill with chips and salsa. The restaurant itself is small and cozy also clean and well kept. The staff is always friendly. I really have nothing bad to say about this small little restaurant. I love it. I highly recommend this place for a delicious lunch or dinner.
A couple friends and I went to the Taco Shack during lunch and we were quite disappointed. We expected to hear the sizzle of meat and maybe catch a glimpse of some fresh made tortilla action. However, there was nothing but the sound of the microwave going off. It was quite sad. When we ordered the lady mentioned she was out of adobada meat as well as quite a bit of things on the menu. Two of us ordered tacos with the meat she suggested was really good and our other friend ordered a caldo de res (beef stew). The tacos did not blow us away or even surprise us. The tortillas were store bought, seemed to be heated in the microwave, and not on the comal. As for the caldo, our friend said the caldo lacked salt and the chayote, carrot, and other veggies were half way cooked and still a bit hard. The lady is very nice, offers great customer service, but she needs step the food quality up.
Overall average food. While the food is better than what the outside would leave you to believe the best aspect of this establishment is the owner/workers. Great and especially kind people. I'd come back just to see and support them. Food is good but not exceptional. Give it a try but not memorable the next day.
