Not one bad thing to say about the meal itself, it was perfect. The amuse bouche that evening was smoked salmon with chevre, an appetizer of escargot in a garlic broth was delightful, a palette cleanser of grapefruit and white wine sorbet was light and refreshing. The Duck with black cherries, blanched green beans, couscous and yellow pepper was a true winner. Gagnant !The Flourless Chocolate Cake with peanut butter mousse and strawberry coulis was as smooth and rich as my second husband but far more memorable.Unfortunately the Irish Coffee when it finally arrived came with no spoon, no napkin and the whipped cream had been beaten too long so it had turned and separated. Breakfast the next morning was served in a less formal dining area looking out onto the patio where one could also be served in better weather. The poached eggs with smoked salmon was excellent. The yolks were very flavourful and perfectly cooked. Service, again, was lacking in that another diner asked for cream for her coffee and the server, instead of walking 9 steps to the kitchen, was going to take mine and I wasn't even half way through yet. And please, please do not ask patrons if they are "still workin' on that ?" It is not an occupation to have breakfast so instead, perhaps ask if you may take their plate. A scowl from a different table when asked the same question had the waitress turn tail. All in all, the food was exemplary and well worth a return visit, albeit; if one can overlook some hiccups along the way.
One standout dish is the spinach chicken salad, a longstanding favorite at Westover for over 40 years. It's no wonder this dish remains a staple on the menu, as our repeated orders left us satisfied and impressed after all these years. For a break from dining, take a stroll in the beautiful city of St. Marys, easily accessible from Westover via the nearby city paths. Don't miss the opportunity to explore the largest handmade landscape "Mund" in Canada, offering breathtaking views of the hills. With a superb wine list to complement your meal and scenic surroundings to enjoy, Westover Inn is a must-visit destination for a memorable dining experience. Bon voyage on your visit to this lovely establishment.
Spent a weekend with another couple in the westover inn recently and found it quite disappointing. we have chosen a room with a balcony where we could have our morning coffee there and maybe an evening glass. the balcony was completely unusable. due to a puppy attack. my man went to the recipe and got a little raid and sprayed diligently, but not into the condition as they always came. Moreover, we could not connect to the internet. the room was sufficient, but old and tired and needs updating. there were no pleasant things in the room like refrigerator, coffee machine or dressing stands that I would expect to this price, and the restaurant was not open to breakfast, which meant that we had to go to the city. we ate dinner in the restaurant in the first night, which was in order, but very expensive. overall the experience was underwhelming and I would be hard pressed to recommend based on the price.
We enjoy staying in with our friends, indulging in a delicious meal and a wonderful ambiance! Westover provided a wine tasting with small appetizers followed by a six-course dinner. Just before midnight, we toasted to the New Year with champagne and watched the fireworks. It was a fantastic way to welcome 2020!
They could use some new signs for visitors to find, drove past the small plate at driveway entrance and totally missed the small sign for parking. We were a lunch group of 12 with one server, could have used a second to help.
