An early dinner with the kids. The place looked almost deserted though seemed open. We walked in and looked around for a minute Or two before «mama» came out of the kitchen. Not speaking english like proposed in earlier reviews. Not a huge problem. We found a quasi spanish/english/german way of communicating. We picked a table ouraelves and were handed two menues. Non for the kids. Menues were written in spanish and german. With a bit of effort we decifered most of it using tourist knowledge of spanish and old high school memories of german. The menu was lacking quite a few of the afore mentioned dishes. We settled on burgers and a pizza to keep it simple tonight. Friendly but somewhat ligvistically challenged «mama» took our order, struggeling a bit with the drinks. But the drinks were served promptly and correctly. The food took a while to prepare. Usually an indication of good quality and little preparation on beforehand. Burgers were obviously hand made and carefully seasoned with some kind of spice mix. Very good to my taste. Sadly one out of three was seriously under cooked and the two others borderline. The garnish was OK, but the buns a sad story. Nothing resembling the photo published earlier. Clearly store bought. Fries were also a bit under cooked and a bit soggy. Seasoned with paprika and no salt. Salt was not available at the table either. The pizza was supposed to be a classic margaritha. Not a lot og italian flavor to it. Probably store bought pie with a slab of bland tomato sause and some local cheese not resembling mozarella in any way. During the meal another couple came for just a glass of wine. All of a sudden «papa» came out of the kitchen making a lot of fuzz over the newly arrived. A very happy and lively turn of events. He stressed a bit back and forth serving drinks, introducing himself and his daughter to the newly arrived. A bit bizzare in contrast to our rather mundane reception. Asking for the bill and proposing to pay with Visa turned the whole establishment up side down. «Mama» had to get «papa» to find the son and all three of them were needed to work the machine. But they got it right and the bill was the lowest in a week. I think «mama» was almost glad to see us go, because she was all of a sudden quite cheerful with her goodbyes Clearly rating a place based on burgers and pizza instead of local specialties is not the best way to go about. I have my doughts about the rest of the menu as well, but bumped their grade up to a 3 based on their effort
This is a quite restaurant dense area, and El dulce is one of the best places. Don’t let the location fool you. Excellent pizza, salmon, gulasch soup, pork loin, and crepes for deserts. Very friendly staff unlike some of the more expensive restaurants in the neighborhoods.
We called here for a late lunch one day. Friendly service and the food was lovely. I had a Greek salad. My partner wanted the lentil salad but it was unavailable, the staff happily recommended another salad and offered to swap the chicken for grilled cheese as we are veggie. Very accommodating and reasonably priced.
