I used to wax lyrical about the freshness and authenticity of the delicate flavours this pub kitchen was able to put together for their Thai menu. We enjoyed many a takeaway and eating in and were never disappointed with any of the options on offer. The kitchen has been closed for most of the beginning of this year, but reopened a few weeks ago with a ‘new menu’ ….. Disaster! Gone is the feel of individually cooked dishes with well crafted Thai sauces and flavours. Gone is the freshly prepared and sliced cuts of meat and welcome; freeze dried, generic square cuts of bland beef and chicken coated in ‘out of a jar’ type sauces. Soggy tasteless starters, precooked industrial noodles with now bite and amazingly no flavour. Yes, they can still do a Pad Thai, but it still isn’t as good as it used to be. What’s happened? It feels like the menu has gone in search of profit margins rather than pride and perfection. We’ve tried twice since the kitchen reopened as we just couldn’t believe it could have fallen that far. Both times we paid over £100 for 3 or 4 of us to eat. Unless things change drastically and there is some serious soul searching from the chef and management I can’t see the old regular fan base of this kitchen continuing to order food from this venue. I certainly don’t see anyone new regular customers being created. We won’t be going back anytime soon. I’ll wait until I see reviews telling me how wrong I am and I should give another go. Sandrock team: you know the old menu, you know this new style is not a patch on the old traditional food you cooked. Please please think again.
We popped in last Sunday for 'early doors ' and decided to order a takeaway while having a drink. Both chicken dishes were lovely, and a decent amount of chicken and fresh ingredients. We also had a squid starter and a prawn dish, which came with little containers of the dipping sauces, and were all good portion sizes. We will be back!
Had great Thai food which was accompanied with great beer and customer service, everyone was so lovely
If having a superb selection of ales is not enough, The Sandrock also has a full Thai menu. The food was very authentic, and the crispy sea bass was stunning. I will be back again in a weeks time. Yum yum!!
We were in the area (from Wiltshire) to view a property and lunch afterwards seemed an appropriate venue to discuss the property so I had looked for a lunch place. Not having had Thai food for a very long time and as we love food this was chosen. It was 10 past 12 when we entered Sandrocks and there was one punter at the bar. We chose the set lunch menu the duck and the chicken and decided as the sun was shining to sit outside. As pointed out before drinks and food are paid for separately, as the food/kitchen are separate entities. The piping hot food plates arrived in a timely manner and we dipped and dived between both varieties. Very very tasty and just perfectly spicy and flavourful. Extremely happy at the end of the meal and very cost effective !!! I wish it was nearer home as we would eat there quite a lot. Full Marks. We got a nice kitchen wave as we left the pub.
