The menu was not especially exciting to us, the food was quite good but not as amazing as we had expected. The appetizers were not as appealing as we would have expected, the halibut was absolutely perfect but the duck was somewhat tasteless I expected a more gamy taste, but instead it was kind of difficult to distinguish from pork. Veggies were nice and the presentation was beautiful. The desserts were not as good as expected... loved the tea cup idea for the tiramisu, but too much cocoa on top and lacking the coffee or alcohol flavor that I like. I was disappointed that the server's assistants forgot about the 70th birthday request to have a candle on my husband's dessert, but he will survive. So, compared to our many experiences with restaurants like Araxi, Rimrock, and Red Door in Whistler, this was not as amazing as we had expected a little underwhelming.
My husband and I were there on a Monday night, so the restaurant was quiet. Our server, a French snowboarder, was very attentive and other young lady who took our second drink order was as sweet and kind as he was. The food! I had hummus, risotto, duck, and ice cream and my husband had warm olives, kanpachi, steak, and olive oil cake yum! I was most impressed with how the chef cooked kanpachi. I am Japanese and have had kanpachi before. Although I am usually skeptical about non Japanese cooking kanpachi (sorry, not being discriminative, but had been disappointed before at other pricy restaurants), at Il Caminetto, it was perfectly done and exceeded my expectation beautifully! I imagined the dish would be like kanpachi carpaccio, but it was thicker sliced and prepared nicely that tasted like sashimi scallops. Loved the risotto. Medium rare rib eye was so flavourful (we shared and liked his beef more than my duck), and I wish there were one more scoop of vanilla ice cream and mango sorbet each! Thank you for the fantastic meal and the memorable interactions with those nice serving staff members. Amazing experience!
Enjoyed a fine dinner and only downside was the acoustics are poor and the noise is very high so difficult at times to hear.
Our waitress was on a training shift and she did an excellent job.
Never disappoints. Whenever i am in Whislter, i always make sure to have dinner here. Everything balances well at Caminettos, and the team that has created this place deserves acknowledgement of their fine work.
