According to the National Trust website the operating lease on the pub expired at the end of March 2023. The Trust is looking for a new operator. Please check that the pub has reopened and still has a good range of vegan options before you visit.
Revisited Sticklebarn today after doing a gruelling walk. A new menu has more vegan options on so ordered two cauliflower wings with hash browns and fries with Helles lager unfiltered and unfined). The food was fantastic... substantial satisfying and just the ticket. Sticklebarn is owned by the National Trust and is a popular place with walkers, who climb the Langdale Pikes and where we drank a pint after climbing them ourselves a few days earlier. On a separate walk up Lingmoor we called for lunch, after noticing a couple of vegan options on the menu. Sticklebarn are passionate about locally sourced products, with money raised going back into the local economy and each dish displays its carbon emissions equivalent CO2e). We ordered garlic mushrooms and peacamole on sourdough toast, with a side order of skin on fries to share, with a pint of Helle lager each. The food was excellent, fresh, delicious and well cooked and I will be stealing the peacamole idea, which was awesome. The only negative were the skin on fries, which were expensive at £3.25, I would expect a much bigger portion for the price. However it was a lovely tranquil place for lunch and I would revisit. This is a great place to go if you enjoy hiking as it is near to the great Langdale valley where there are loads of lovely walks, the atmosphere is relaxed and casual but the food is also very good with some (but not loads ofvegan options(I had the aubergine curry and vegan brownie which were both very good). The menu also clearly displays the CO2 footprint of each item which is excellent to see!
Fab location and a good few clearly marked vegan options on the menu (including vegan ice cream). National trust run, friendly staff and good prices. I like how they put the kg of CO2 generated next to each menu item might make some customers consider ordering vege instead!
