Gilligan's Seafood Johns Island

The best Hush puppy hands down! They just melt in the mouth. When I get to Charleston, I have to make one or two stops. Great service.

Amazing eating. the. bartender knew their things in the production of beverages. it was a great dinner. we had originally stopped at the krabbenhaus and it was 45 minutes waiting so we landed at gilligans. we sat at the bar and we were happy.

What a fantastic place for a meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. There was no food. The lush puppies were moist and tasty. I had the gumbo and it was excellent (it could have been spicier) and everyone else in my party loved their meal. The fish and chips, chicken pliers, grilled shrimps and the Flounder sandwich were great. You will not be disappointed with your meal

The food and waitstaff were excellent at this restaurant. However, the bartender did not fare as well when it came to making mixed drinks. The food was good and served hot, but the atmosphere left something to be desired. Lunch was served in a toaster oven pan, which we tried on two separate occasions. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, but the mixed drinks were disappointing both times. On the first day, I ordered a special drink that was expensive and more like a creamy concoction than a proper beverage. The next day, I tried a strawberry daiquiri that was a pale pink color instead of the usual red. It lacked flavor and seemed more like a dessert than a drink, so I returned it and just had water instead. The bartender then became loud and defensive, claiming he had been in the industry for 30 years and didn't make mistakes often. It was clear that he was upset that I sent the drink back, as he could see me from the bar. Due to this unpleasant experience, we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Gilligan's is on the pricier side, but it offers delicious roasted seafood. While the prices have increased recently, you can find similar options at upscale restaurants in downtown for a comparable price or slightly more. I live close by and would frequent Gilligan's more often if it were more affordable.
